Hershel Lamar Thomas of Westville, FL passed away on Monday, February 8, 2021 at his home. He was 77 years old.


Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 12, 2021 in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva with Sister Brenda Jones, Rev. Wayne Brannon, Rev. Steve Ethridge and Rev. Chuck Grantham officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Assembly of God Church Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, February 11, 2021 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.


Mr. Thomas was born in Holmes County, FL to the late Joseph Hershel and Nettie G. Yates Thomas. Mr. Thomas loved woodworking, especially with cedar. In his spare time, he enjoyed a good fishing trip. He was a minister of the gospel for many years and was an active member of Emmanuel Assembly of God Church.   


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Robbie Nell Scott, Ruby Dell Morris, Mary Evelyn Summerlin, and Jacqueline Iona Thomas: four brothers, James, Leonard, Earl, and Max Thomas.


He is survived by wife, Nancy F. Thomas of Westville, FL; one son, Hershel LaDon Thomas of Esto, FL; one daughter, Lovetta Rebecca McCarthy (Bill) of Slocomb, AL; one step-daughter, Rachel Retzer (Arnold) of Clearwater, FL; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild;  three sisters, Mildred “Mikki” Perkins of Westville, FL, Patricia “Pat” Galloway of Westville, FL, and Peggy Blakeney (Charles) of Geneva, AL; very special friends, Wendell Peacock of Westville, FL, and Robert Monaghan of Geneva, AL; many special nieces and nephews.


The family would like to thank Covenant Care Hospice for their devoted love and care, especially nurses, Tracey Jordan and Adrianna Lawson.
