HTC Hildrey Herbert Arnette, USN (RET) of Enterprrise went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 2, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was 90.


Funeral services will be 10:00am Thursday, September 6, 2018 from the Hillcrest Baptist Church with Dr. Michael Mynatt officiating and Richard Pipkin providing the eulogy. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service.  Burial with military honors will follow at Meadowlawn Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory of Enterprise directing.


The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 5 until 7pm.


The family asked that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Enterprise YMCA, P.O. Box 310700, Enterprise, Alabama 36331.


Mr. Herb was born October 30, 1927 in Coffee County to the late Noah and Georgia Strickland Arnette. He entered the U.S. Navy at age 17 which was the beginning of a long journey that took him to many parts of the world. His first ship was the Battleship USS Alabama. At age 21, he returned to Coffee County where he found a job and attended school in Enterprise until the Korean War started in 1951 at which time he was called back into the Navy. After finishing high school in the Navy, he was eligible to apply for welding school while still serving his country. Following his time in the Navy, he returned to Enterprise where he began a career in Welding. He was the welding instructor at Enterprise High School from 1970-1989.  He was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. From 1996- 2018 he served the Lord through the Enterprise YMCA, making a difference in countless families.


 


Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Helen Cordle Arnette, Enterprise, 2 daughters: Cindy Watkins (Doug), Enterprise, Debra Bugg (Gordon), Auburn, AL, grandchildren: Ryan Ivey, Brent Ivey (Jean), Michael Wiggins, Erin Watkins Perry and Douglas Watkins (Michelle), great grandchildren: Collin and Caleb Perry, Lynleigh Watkins, Shane Arnette Ivey (born 8-3-18), other extended family.
