Homer Jennings “Sam” Cullifer of Salt Springs, FL, passed away Wednesday 8/31/2022 at the age of 93.  He was born in Geneva, Alabama.

Sam was in the US Navy from 1947-1966 and was a parachute rigger.  He was a US Navy Competitive Shooter and retired as PRC Chief Petty Officer.  In retirement, Sam owned multiple successful businesses and enjoyed several occupations.

Sam was the last surviving of eight children born to Rev. James A. Cullifer and Susie Childs Cullifer.  He is survived by daughters Bonnie Screws (Alan), Tammy Law (Bert), Samantha Bennett (Tim), and preceded in death by daughter Sheri Jameson.  He had six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a large extended family, and many friends near and far.

Sam had a love of travel, motorcycles, his red Miata, camping, Christian fellowship, and missionary work.  Although Sam had visited every state and enjoyed traveling to Mexico, he always appreciated going “back to the woods” in Salt Springs.  Sam was a member of the Salt Springs Baptist Church, Kempsville Masonic Lodge of Virginia Beach, NRA, VFW Post 10208 in Salt Springs, Christian Motorcycle Association, and Loners on Wheels camping club.  Sam would say that this life “has been thrilling”, and that he’s glad to be back “on the road again”.

A graveside service, with full military honors, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Poplar Head United Methodist Church Cemetery in Holmes County, FL with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva, directing.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to First Baptist Church of Salt Springs or Hospice of Marion County.
