NEWVILLE. . .Jack Owens Murphy, a resident of the Capps Community of Henry County, died early Tuesday morning, November 5, 2019, in a Dothan hospital. He was 80 years old.

     Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, November 10, 2019, in the Fellowship Baptist Church with Reverend Tim McCraney, Reverend Ray S. Reiley and Reverend Hollis Ritter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 P.M. Sunday in the church sanctuary.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fellowship Baptist Church “Cemetery Fund”, c/o Robb Cleveland, 5651 State Highway 27, Newville, AL 36353.

     Jack Murphy was a lifelong resident of the Capps Community, son of the late Loyd Murphy and Codine Beatrice Owens Murphy. He was a 1957 graduate of Abbeville High School and attended Auburn University. Jack served his country in the Army National Guard in the Abbeville unit. He was engaged in farming all his lifetime. Jack was an active member of the Fellowship Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and was involved in all church activities.

     Surviving relatives include his wife, Ann Beamon Murphy; a daughter, Traci Murphy DeShazo (Michael), Newville; two sons, Chris Murphy (Angie), Wicksburg; and Jon Murphy (Krissi), Newville; a brother, Malcolm Henry (Mack) Murphy (Ruth), St. Louis, MO; eight grandchildren, Jade Hughes, Shelton Murphy (Stephanie), Payton DeShazo, Skipper Murphy, Paige DeShazo Richburg (Riley), Noah Murphy, Gabby Murphy, Ann-Elizabeth Murphy; three great-grandchildren, Mackenna Hughes, Cooper Hughes and Shaley Jo Murphy; a brother-in-law, David Beamon (Donna), Charlotte, NC; several nieces and nephews.

     Serving as active pallbearers will be the grandsons.
