James Allen Shortt of Samson, AL passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at his home. He was 67 years old.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 9, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Mike Shortt and Rev. John Richburg officiating. Burial will follow at Samson First Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, October 8, 2023, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.

Allen was born in Montgomery, AL to James C. and Sue Jay Shortt. Allen had a great love for his family. If you knew Allen, you knew his love for Christ was first in his life followed by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He had a heart full of love for all children and enjoyed working with them in church. He also worked at Geneva Head Start for a period and often said that it was the most satisfying job he ever had. Allen also owned a nursery and loved to grow beautiful flowers and trees.

Allen is preceded in death by his father, James C. Shortt; one brother, Curtis Shortt; grandparents, Roy Corbitt and Ione Jay, Samuel and Maudie Shortt.

Allen leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of 47 years, Wanda Shortt; daughter, Tracey Bowden (Dallas); son, David Shortt (Kenzie); grandchildren, Kaitlyn Landingham Lainer (Zachary), Matthew Landingham (Ambur), Savannah Shortt, Maddison “Honey” Shortt, Davy Shortt, Steven Shortt; great grandchildren, James, Rory, Carter Landingham, Elijah Lanier, and a great granddaughter due in November,  Violet Lanier; his precious loving mother, Sue Jay Shortt; brother, Michael Shortt (Lori), sisters, Caryn Hatcher (Bruce), Jane Kelley (Rodney), Sharon Slay (John); sister in law, Sandra Shortt; and numerous nieces and nephews.
