James Cecil Whitehurst


 


James Cecil Whitehurst, a resident of Ashford, died Monday, September 15, 2014 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 78.


Graveside services will be held 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Cedar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. William Irwin officiating and Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends at Cedar Springs Baptist Church Wednesday from 3:30 until 5:30 prior to service time.


Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to Cedar Springs Baptist Church, 3754 Cedar Springs Rd., Ashford, AL 36312.


Mr. Whitehurst was born September 27, 1935 in Houston County and lived most all of his life here. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a pressman at the Dothan Eagle for many years. He also owned and operated Cecil’s Upholstery Shop for a number of years.


Mr. Whitehurst is predeceased by his parents, Richard “Sam” and Lily Whitehurst; siblings, Richard Whitehurst, Roy Whitehurst, Robert Whitehurst and Lucille Quattlebaum.


Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Fovitte Bowen Whitehurst; two brothers, Ed Whitehurst and Frank Whitehurst; 4 children, Randy and Tina Whitehurst, Wanda and Espy Odom, Marsha and Robert Warden and Alan and Sissy Whitehurst; 7 grandchildren and their spouses; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. All are from the Ashford and Dothan area.
