JAMES EVERETT “JIM” JOHNSON (MAJOR, UNITED STATES ARMY, RETIRED)

HEADLAND…James Everett “Jim” Johnson (Major, United States Army, Retired), a resident of Headland, died Saturday morning, October 26, 2019 at his home. He was 76.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 P.M. (EST) Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, Georgia, with full military honors.  The family will receive extended family and friends at Wright Funeral Home & Crematory from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday evening, October 29, 2019.

Jim was born in Ft. Worth, Texas to James Arthur Johnson and Orita Nelson Johnson. He spent his childhood being spoiled by his great aunts and using his father’s laundry business as his own personal playground. Jim loved being a Texan, and he loved telling stories about his childhood growing up there. He was very ambitious even as a young man. He loved to dance and used that skill to teach dance and hone his skills in sales to became the top salesman at his dance studio. He continued that hard work by putting himself through college and receiving a Business Administration degree from Texan Wesleyan College. He went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army. While in the military, he was stationed in many places all over the world. He fought two tours in Vietnam, flying over seventy-five combat missions, getting shot down twice. After he retired from the U.S. Army he worked as a Security Surveillance Contractor.

Jim married Rosie Ann in 1992. He spent over 27 years loving and taking care of her. Their life together took them to many places. Jim loved to travel and piloted his beloved Mooney Plane whenever he had the chance. Their travels together took them to many places like Key West and The Bahamas. Jim loved to fly. He’d fly to Colorado because he loved skiing or just fly somewhere because he wanted to take Rosie Ann for a lunch date.

Jim was an amazing man that used his self-made success to help others. He was tough and smart and generous. Jim lived a life that most people could only dream of living. His presence on this earth was a gift to many, and he will be missed terribly. The world seems a little less classy since we lost Diamond Jim, but his love and life will live on in the hearts of all the family and friends that were blessed to know him.

Mr. Johnson leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Rosie Ann Todd Johnson; his sons, Phil Dees, of Juliette, GA, Scott Dees (Fran), of Leesburg, GA, Joey Dees (Mandy), of Headland; his grandchildren, Coty Dees (Brittany), Britney Dees Tedder (Fred), Pierce Dees, Ashlyn Dees, and Christopher Dees; a great-grandson, Lincoln Dees; a very special friend, Hogan McVey.
