Mr. James Junior Thames of Vernon Florida and formerly of Coffee County passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2011 in the Bay Medical Center. He was 84.  


Funeral services will be 2:00pm Saturday, December 3, 2011 in the Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel in Enterprise with Rev. Hollis Bradley and Dr. Darrell Henry officiating. Burial will follow in the Asbury U.M. Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Enterprise Friday from 5 until 8pm. At all other times the family will be at the home of his sister, Sara and Bobby Hughes, Hwy 134, Elba, AL.


 Flowers will be accepted or contributions could be made to Asbury U. M. Church cemetery fund, c/o J D Thames, 5878 County Rd 636, Chancellor, AL 36316.


 Mr. Thames was born August 18, 1927 in Coffee County to the late James Oliver and Annie Pearl Bradley Thames. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Panama City Beach, FL. He was affectionately known as J.R. to many as well as “Steele Field Mayor” to others. He was a Roll Tide fan, loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman.. In addition to his parents, a sister, Frances Vernell Thames preceded him in death.


 Survivors include his sister: Sara Hughes (Bobby), Elba, AL., his brother: J D Thames (Elizabeth), Chancellor, AL, nieces: Gwen Cooper (Tony) and Phyllis Griswold (Reggie) all of Enterprise, AL, nephew: Ricky Hughes (Kim), Elba, AL, a number of special great and great great nieces and nephews.
