A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00pm Friday, October 20, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with David Pope officiating. Larry will be laid to rest in Oak Grove Cemetery in Slocomb. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday.

James Larry Everett, known to all as Larry, was called home to be with the Lord on October 18, 2023. Born on February 20, 1944, in the small town of Malvern, Alabama, Larry was a beacon of love, faith, and intelligence, whose light touched the lives of everyone he met.

Larry was a proud graduate of the Newton High School Class of 1962, where he showcased his athletic prowess on both the baseball diamond and the football field. His dedication to service was evident in his 12-year tenure as Geneva County Commissioner and his time in the Army National Guard. Larry was a man of the people, a true servant leader who never met a stranger. He was a man who understood the value of community and the importance of lending a hand to a neighbor in need.

Larry was a devoted member of the Slocomb Church of Christ, where his faith was as steadfast as the Alabama pines. He was a man of deep conviction, whose faith-filled life was a testament to his love for the Lord. His intelligence was as vast as the Alabama sky, and he was always willing to share his wisdom with those around him.

Larry was a loving husband to his wife of 60 years, Janice Everett. Their love story was one for the ages, a testament to their unwavering commitment and devotion to each other. He was a proud father to his son, James Larry (Anne-Marie) Everett, Jr., and his daughter, Janna Everett Holland. His love extended to his grandchildren, James Richard (Jacie) Grimsley, Taylor Everett, Jordyn Griffin (Jarred), Sydney Everett, and Gracie Everett, and his great-grandson, Frank Griffin. Larry was also survived by his siblings, Kenneth (Linda) Everett, Terry (Linda) Everett, Randall Everett, Rodney (Lucy) Everett, and Sue (Ronald) Hughes, along with his brother-in-laws, Johnny Yeoman and Kenneth Yeoman, and his sister-in-law, Anne Everett. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Bryant and Mamie Everett, and his siblings, Ruby Nell Park, Charlie Wade Everett, Donald Gene Everett, and Paul Everett.

Larry was a man of many interests. He was an avid Alabama and Braves fan, and his love for the game was infectious. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, like fishing with his four-legged buddy, Parley, and tending to his citrus fruit, grapes, and sculpins. Larry's love for the outdoors was only surpassed by his love for his family and his faith.

In the words of the good book, "Well done, good and faithful servant." Larry lived a life of service, love, and faith. He was a man who loved deeply, served faithfully, and lived intelligently. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched, and his light will continue to shine in the lives of his loved ones.
