MIDLAND  CITY. . .James Lewis Washington, a resident of Dale County, near the Echo Community, died Sunday afternoon, January 30, 2022, in a Dothan hospital. He was 86.


       A private memorial service will be held at a later date.


       Mr. Washington was born and reared in Richmond, Indiana, son of the late Harry Washington and Mary Chapman Washington. He enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and served his country during the Vietnam War era. Mr. Washington retired with the rank of T/Sgt after twenty years of service. He received a B. S. and a Master’s Degree, both from Troy University. After retirement from the military, he lived in Geneva County, Alabama, where he was employed by the Geneva County Department of Human Resources. Mr. Washington was a member of the Morgan Baptist Church and the Gideons International. He was also a member of the Houston County Rose Society and was an accredited Rose Judge as well as a master gardener.


       Surviving relatives include his wife, Frances Marlowe Washington, a daughter, Debbie Sewell (Reverend Tim Sewell), Midland City; a sister, Mary Louise VerHage, two grandchildren, Cassie Sewell Faria (Rusty), and T. J. Sewell (Amanda), seven great-grandchildren, Collin Dykes, Layn Sewell, Paycee Sewell, Kloee Sewell, Hadlee Faria, Kamryn Faria and Libby Faria.
