JAMES  PATRICK  CUMBIE



WICKSBURG. .  . James P. (Sonny) Cumbie, a resident of Wicksburg, died Saturday morning, August 11, 2012, in a Dothan hospital. He was 77.


            Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, August 12, 2012, in the Pilgrim Home Baptist Church with Reverend Buddy Hood officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Sunday in the church sanctuary.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pilgrim Home Baptist Church, 13534 U.S. 84 West, Newton, Alabama 36352 or to Gideons International, Henry County Camp, P.O. Box 473, Headland, AL 36345.


            Mr. Cumbie was a lifelong resident of Wicksburg, son of the late Patrick Eli Cumbie and Pauline Creel Cumbie. He was a graduate of Wicksburg High School and attended Troy University. Mr. Cumbie was retired as the co-owner and operator of Continental Insurance in Daleville. He was also retired from the Houston County Board of Education as a school bus driver. Mr. Cumbie was a member of the Pilgrim Home Baptist Church.  


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Jean Bedsole Cumbie, Wicksburg; a daughter, Sheila Cook and husband, Stephen, Wicksburg; two sons, Randy Cumbie and wife, Suzanne, Niceville, FL; and Greg Cumbie and wife, Theresa, Wicksburg; two sisters, Judy Parrish and husband, James, Navarre, FL; and Margaret Griffin, Troy, AL; nine grandchildren, Joshua Cook, Mary-Anne Cook, Andrew Cook, Sarah Cook, Preston Cumbie, Carson Cumbie, Haleigh Cole, Hayden Cumbie and Gaines Cumbie; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law from the Bedsole family, Shirley Lanell Baker and husband, Glenn, Leesburg, FL; Elizabeth Bedsole, Orange Park, FL; Jerry Bedsole and wife, Sue, Roswell, GA.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Deacons of the Pilgrim Home Baptist Church.
