DOTHAN. . .Jane Ammons Potts, a resident of Dothan, died Monday morning, August 7, 2023, in Wesley Place on Honeysuckle. She was 97.


            Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 9, 2023, in  Gardens of Memory, between Headland & Dothan, with Reverend Hugh D. Kirkland, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside services. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may made to the Newville Baptist Church, P.O. Box 13, Newville, AL 36353 or Calvary Baptist Church, 901 Montezuma Avenue, Dothan, AL 36303.


            Mrs. Potts was born and reared in Dale County, near the Echo Community, daughter of the late John Thomas “Luther” Ammons and Nettie Laura Newsome Ammons. She attended Echo and Headland schools. Mrs. Potts formerly lived in Newville before moving to Dothan. She is a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Dothan and formerly attended Newville Baptist Church. Mrs. Potts was formerly employed by WestPoint Stevens in Abbeville as a Quality Control Technician after twenty-years employment. An accomplished local artist, she served as President of the Dothan Wiregrass Art League and won several awards. Mrs. Potts is preceded in death by her husband, Victor B. Potts, Sr., brothers, Ovie Ammons, Frank Ammons, Kenneth Ammons, Roger Ammons and Emmitt Ammons, and a daughter-in-law, Anna Singletary.


            Surviving relatives include three sons, Barry Singletary (Marilyn), Headland; Jimmy Singletary, Newville; and Ronnie Singletary (Ellane), Abbeville; two step-daughters, Patsy Farmer (Dan), Eufaula; and Sherry Hodge (Robert), Prattville; a step-son, Victor Potts, Jr. (Judy), Webb; a sister-in-law, Betty Ammons, Midland City; grandchildren, Jason Singletary (Beth), Matt Singletary (Dana), Clint Singletary (Jill), Janie Jones (Shad), Samantha Barron (Whitney), Nicholas Singletary, Luke Singletary, Miranda Wade (Clint); several step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Austin Singletary (Kacie), Jenna Singletary, Jay Singletary (Abbey), Autumn Davis (Chandler), Carson Mohajerin, Ivey Jo Barron, Hayden Singletary, Havanna Singletary, Hadley Wade, Ava Wade, Emerson Wade, Lacey Wade and Ace Singletary, a great-great-grandson, Kayden Singletary; several step-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Jason Singletary, Matt Singletary, Luke Singletary, Austin Singletary, Jay Singletary, Clint Singletary, Ace Singletary, Shad Jones and Whitney Barron.


            The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Gentiva Hospice, all the caregivers at Dogwood Manor, Azalea Court, Wesley Place, and the visits from Calvary Baptist Church Ministry.
