ABBEVILLE. . .Janet Bowie Connell, a resident of Abbeville, died Sunday night, July 23, 2023, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility. She was 89.

            Memorial services will be held at a later date in Florida. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.

            Mrs. Connell was born in Carlstadt, New Jersey, daughter of the late William Bowie and Margaret Vellekamp Bowie. She lived in Englewood and North Port, Florida before moving to Abbeville in 2014. Mrs. Connell was formerly employed by Sarasota County in the Venice High School lunchroom in Venice, Florida. She was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church in Dothan and the V.F.W. Post No. 8203 of North Port, Florida. Mrs. Connell was preceded in death by her husband, Edward William Connell, a grandson, Michael Dean, Jr., a sister and five brothers.

            Surviving relatives include four daughters, Betty Ann Diegel (Robert), Levittown, PA; Kathy Olmsted, Abbeville, AL; Margaret Steiner (John), Maryville, TN; and Janet Ray (Chris), Enterprise, AL; two sons, Edward W. Connell, Jr. (Arlene), Englewood, FL; and James Connell, Shelby, North Carolina; a brother-in-law, Gerry Connell (Elizabeth), Brooklyn, NY. Mrs. Connell was blessed with twenty-two grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren and eight great-greatgrandchildren.
