Janet Herndon Flowers, a resident of Dothan, died November 9, 2021 in Dothan. She was 90.


Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 12, 2021 in the chapel at First United Methodist Church of Dothan. The family will receive friends at the church immediately after the services.


Mrs. Flowers was born in Greene County, Alabama on January 25, 1931 to James D. Herndon and Erma Dial Herndon. She was raised in Greene County and graduated in 1949 from Greene County High School, where she played in the band. She graduated from Auburn University in 1953. Mrs. Flowers then moved to Dothan and worked as an assistant with the Home Demonstration Council for Houston County.


She married F. A. Flowers, Jr. in May, 1954. They had two sons, Berry and Bill. Mrs. Flowers was an outstanding mother, instilling high values and morals in both of her sons. She was kind and thoughtful throughout her life.


Mrs. Flowers was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dothan for more than 67 years. She sang in the church choir for many years and supported many charities and the Houston-Love Memorial Library. She enjoyed walking and reading.


Mrs. Flowers was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her youngest son, Bill Flowers, both of whom died in 2010.


Mrs. Flowers is survived by her oldest son, Berry Flowers; Bill’s wife, Julie Flowers Webber (Ricky); her grandchildren, Blair Flowers Butler (Peter), Janie Flowers Lazares (Kevin), and Ellen Flowers; and finally, her two great-grandchildren, Frances Butler and Caroline Lazares.


The family would like to thank all of the staff at the Terrace at Grove Park for their outstanding and thoughtful care, as well as Dayspring Hospice.
