Janice Smith Wilson, 85, of Dothan passed away Friday, February 24, 2012 at a local hospital.


Funeral services will be 1 pm Monday, February 27, 2012 at Sunset funeral Home with Allen Jones and Rev. Bob Gross officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 3-5 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Flowers are being accepted or memorial donations may be made to The Ark Ministries, 475 W. Main St., Dothan, AL, 36301.


Mrs. Wilson was born November 23, 1926 in Houston County to the late Jack and Annie Smith and lived the early part of her life in Kinsey. She resided in Abbeville, AL from 1968 until 1973 where she was active with Calvary Baptist Church. She resided most of her life in Dothan where she was employed with Blumberg’s and Harold’s. She loved gardening and sewing and crocheting numerous booties for Sav-a-Life. She co-founded the Book Nook, a Christian ministry, for 17 years with her beloved husband, Dewey. Her greatest contribution to the world was her ministry as a prophetic intercessor. She was a mighty channel of the Holy Spirit, and through yielding to His call, countless individuals were healed, saved and delivered. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Dothan. Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her son Tommy Wilson.


Survivors include her husband of 69+ years Dewey Wilson of Dothan; daughters, Deborah (Alan) Jones of Albuquerque, NM and Dianne (Mike) Burns of Dothan, AL; daughter-in-law Maggie Wilson of Abbeville, AL; grandchildren, Jennifer Shirah Poteate, Brannon Shirah, Calli (Rod) Hinton, Staci Wilson (Dan) Giles, Angi Wilson (Ben) Bedsole, and Philip Wilson; great-grandchildren, Kendall and Drew Poteate, Emma and Amelia Giles, AnnaBeth and Benjamin Bedsole; several nieces and nephews also survive.


The family would like to extend a special thank you to the following people who expressed their love and care: CCU nurses Kortney and Marie, Dr. Stavros Diavolitsis, Dr. Paola Bass, Dr. Chris Robinson, Dr. Calvin Reid, Dr. Mary Weaver and the Flowers ER staff, Dr. Mark Robbins, Dr. David Gayle, Dr. Tom Lewis, and special caregiver Becky Dick.


Pallbearers will be Philip Wilson, Brannon Shirah, Michael Burns, Dan Giles, Tharel Shirah, and Ben Bedsole.
