On December 15, 2011, Janice won her fight with cancer and joined her heavenly Father and family, healed, healthy and happy to be home. She was 81. Her family was with her as she passed into paradise and will always remember and cherish her many acts of love and kindness and give thanks for her wonderful life.

On Sunday, December 18, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., Pastor Kyle Gatlin of Covenant United Methodist Church will lead and guide us in a service of memory and worship at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Covenant United Methodist Church Building Fund, 3610 W. Main St., Dothan, AL, 36305 or to Christ United Methodist Church, 6101 Grelot Rd., Mobile, AL, 36609.

Janice was born and raised in Augusta, GA and was preceded into heaven by her parents, Leroy (1974) and Bessie (1992) Weathers, as well as her husband, Robert “Bobby” Hollis (2005).

She is survived by two sons, Bruce (Anne) Hall of Dothan, Harry Lee Hall (Sherry Yeager Hall) of Mobile, AL, and two sisters, Celeste Patterson of Columbus, GA and Patricia (Breck) Brigham of Augusta, GA and a multitude of grandchildren she loved without limits, Meredith Hall (Lookout Mountain, GA),Mason Hall (Madison, AL), Madeline Hall (Auburn, AL), Courtney Hall, Caroline Hall (both from Mobile, AL), Brian and Neely Wilson (Caleb and Riley), John Wilson, and Kelly Wilson (all of Dothan, AL).

In addition, there are many nephews: Wade (Caroline) Patterson (Hendersonville, NC), Breck (Carrie) Brigham, Phil (Allison) Brigham, Lee (Jennifer) Brigham, all from Augusta, GA and favorite niece, Karen (Tommy) Patterson Boyd of Columbus, GA, all of whom, with their children brought great joy and many smiles to Janice as they grew up, married and prospered with grand-nephews and nieces. A first cousin Kathy (Steve) Golden Woodburn of Logansville, GA also survives and was especially close to Janice.

She was blessed by an extended family of G. Tullie (Betty) Hollis (Birmingham, AL), Jimmy Richards (June) Hollis (Albany, GA), Rev. Gerald (Linda) Hollis (Slocomb, AL), and two very special friends Shirley Watt and Gwen Williams.

Janice graduated from Mercer University in 1951 and moved to Dothan in 1954. Throughout her life, Janice was always engaged in a broad spectrum of meaningful activities. She was a teacher in public schools, active in her churches, sang in their choirs and participated in the Methodist Women’s Council. She regularly gave time to the Dothan Service and other civic causes. She especially loved being a part of the plays and programs offered through the Southeast Alabama Community Theatre, and in her most recent pursuits, she was involved as a member, officer and judge for various garden clubs in Georgia and Alabama at both the local and state wide conferences.

More importantly, Janice was constantly, and often privately, giving time and attention and support to those in need who crossed her path, which her family has been blessed to discover during her recent illness.

Janice had a strong and powerful personality that pushed her to attempt perfection, but she also possessed a strong spiritual purpose in her life’s journey that more clearly began to show itself as she struggled to overcome her cancer. As she said in a recent prayer with her family, “Father, you have always protected and provided for this family, I know you are doing so now and will continue to care for them, and I am thankful for that.”

We all join in that prayer and praise and ask her friends join with us and together celebrate her life and homegoing at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home on Sunday, December 18, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. At other times her family will be at the residence of Bruce and Anne Hall of Dothan.

The family gives special thanks to the third floor staff at Extendicare and also to Gentiva Hospice.

Robert Byrd of Sunset Funeral Home, (334) 983-6604, is in charge of arrangements. Please call us or visit www.SunsetMemorialPark.com for more information.
