DOTHAN. . .Jean Byrd Daughtry, a resident of Dothan, died Sunday night, March 26, 2023, in the Extendicare Health Center in Dothan. She was 89.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, March 29, 2023, in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, Bertha Community of Dale County, with Hal Fuller officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends following the graveside services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
Mrs. Daughtry was born and reared in Ozark, daughter of the late John Winston Byrd and Jessie Louise Mixson Byrd. She was a 1952 graduate of the Dale County High School in Ozark and received a degree in Elementary Education from Auburn University in Montgomery. Mrs. Daughtry later received a Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Troy University. She retired as the Director of the Headstart Program in Ozark, Midland City, Midway, Brundidge and Enterprise. Mrs. Daughtry was a member of the First Baptist Church of Columbia and the W.M.U., and formerly taught an adult Sunday School Class. She was a former member of the New Hope Baptist Church in the Bertha Community. Mrs. Daughtry was a member of the Columbia Garden Club. She lived in Ozark and the Bertha Community before moving to Columbia in1997. Mrs. Daughtry was preceded in death by her husband, James Gordon Daughtry, Sr., a son, Joseph Larry Enfinger, and a brother, Mixson Byrd.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Mary Lou Marchman (Roger), Pensacola, FL; a son, Ben Enfinger (Debra), Malvern, AL; six grandchildren, Janna Enfinger, Erin Enfinger Poe (Morgan), Amanda Gilbert (Austin), Katie Venettozzi (David), Anna Gardner (Stephen), and Jonah Enfinger (Kayle) nine great-grandchildren.
