Jean “Mama” Kirkland of Geneva passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2020. She was 74 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at Poplar Head Community Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday beginning at 12:00 p.m.

Mrs. Kirkland was born in Georgianna, AL to the late Arthur J., Sr., and Grace McNeil Salter. Jean was a loving mother and friend. She enjoyed having a good time with her family and friends. Jean possessed a “fiery” and stubborn spirit.  Although she loved her family dearly, her greatest love was her Lord.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Robert Kirkland; siblings, Willie J. Salter, Vera Mae Fell, Alma Densmone, Nell Williams, Dollie Polk, Arthur Salter, Jr., and Jimmy Salter.

She is survived by one daughter, Linda Kirkland of Geneva, AL, step-daughter, Sonja Kirkland Duran of Bonifay, FL; K-9 companion, Runt; special friends, Lisa Sansom, Josh Bass, Kris Carter, Shinoia Barhill, Brandon Pierce and Steve English; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Covenant Care Hospice for their devoted love and care.
