Jere loved The Lord, his family, his church family, practicing law and cheering on the Crimson Tide football team, in that order. He is a graduate of Dothan High School, the University of Alabama and the University of Alabama School of Law. As Jere would tell you and many would attest, he lived two lives. He described it as “before Jesus” and “after Jesus”. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior later in life and he said he wanted to spend the rest of it making up for lost time. The change God made in him was evident, immediate and dramatic. He served The Lord and his beloved Ridgecrest Baptist Church faithfully and was generous with every resource he possessed. He served as a deacon, greeter, Sunday school teacher, on the staff committee and handled legal matters for the church and any member that needed his help.

He celebrated his 84th birthday last week at Grand South Senior Living Facility where he had been residing in the Memory Care Unit since October. He loved all his fellow residents and staff and enjoyed the many activities, especially the daily devotional time where he was known to take over the Bible study and leading the group in prayer. We would like to express our undying gratitude for the love, care and support we all received there.

Jere is survived by his wife, Rene’ Roberson Segrest; his son, Rush (Laura) Segrest; his daughters, Ginger (Doug) Tew and Sherron (Daniel) Bristow; his stepson, Hunter (Lauren) Hayles; his sister, Starr (Bob) Ellard; numerous beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren; his mother-in-law (second mother), Opal Roberson; father-in-law (buddy) Jerry Roberson; and his faithful and constant canine companion, Allie.

Pallbearers are Tim Chase, Bobby Jackson, Kenny Jackson, Jimmy King, Charles Kirkland and Charles Weeks, Jr. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Houston County Bar Association and members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class.
