OZARK…. Mr. Jerry D. Strickland, a resident of Ozark, died Wednesday morning, July 10, 2019, in a Dothan hospital. He was 70.


            Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 13, 2019 in the Post Oak Baptist Church with Reverend David Grier officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Post Oak Baptist Church General Fund, 4108 N. Union Avenue, Ozark, AL 36360.


            Mr. Strickland, son of the late Jesse Lee and Willie Jewel Murdock Strickland, was a native of Enterprise and had lived in Ozark for many years. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he worked as an officer with the Ozark Police Department before pursuing a career with the Southern Company at Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant, where he eventually retired.


            Following his retirement, he was able to devote more time to the activities he truly loved. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his grandchildren and served as a Sunday School teacher at Post Oak Baptist Church. Mr. Strickland was preceded in death by his son, Anthony Alan Strickland and his brother, Lee Roy Strickland


            Surviving relatives include his wife of thirty-eight years, Debra Strickland, Ozark; his daughter, Shilo Beving (Trevor), Elbow Lake, MN; daughter-in-law, Suzanne Strickland, Headland; seven grandchildren, Emily, Weston, Aubrey, and Amelia Beving, Preston, Abbi, and Parker Strickland; many friends, extended family, and loved ones. “He will be greatly missed.”
