FT. GAINES…Jerry Hayes, a resident of Ft. Gaines, died Thursday morning, May 2, 2019, in his home. He was 67.

     Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. (EDT) Saturday, May 4, 2019, in the Ft. Gaines Baptist Church with Reverend Jeff Hines officiating. Burial will follow in the New Park Cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of the arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. (EDT) in the church sanctuary.

     Mr. Hayes was born on November 13, 1951, in Edison, Georgia. He was reared in Bluffton, Georgia, and later settled in Ft. Gaines. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Mr. Hayes was formerly employed with Kennedy Land & Timber company as a truck driver.  He was preceded in death by his father, Alma Hayes.

     Surviving relatives include his wife of 37 years, Jane Kirkland Hayes; his daughter, Donna Crozier (Shane Hayes), Ft. Gaines; his son, Jose Antonio Jimenez, Ft. Gaines; his mother, Kathleen Brown Phillips, Gordon; two sisters, Pauline Benton (Eugene), Gordon, and Kathy Hilliard, Chapman, SC; a brother, Michael Hayes, Screamer; eight grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; his special canine friend, Tiny.
