Mrs. Jewell Lee (Lewis) Berry, 88, a resident of Dothan, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Wesley Place following an extended illness.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 7, 2024, at Glover Funeral Home with Chaplain Billy Berry and Chaplain Ernie Gray officiating and Glover Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow at Cottonwood City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. on Sunday prior to the service.


Mrs. Jewell was born August 16, 1935, in Houston County to the late Willie Harrison and Annie (Graves) Lewis and spent the early years of life in Cottonwood. Jewell worked for many years with Ansell and Sony prior to her retirement.


She loved her family, especially being a mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking and the holidays, especially Christmas. Jewell attended Eddins Road Pentecostal Ministries and loved reading the Bible.


She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie Harrison, and Annie (Graves) Lewis; her husband of 63 years, Joseph L. Berry; two sons, Donald Berry, and Wendell Berry; a daughter, Nancy Martin; a grandson, Cade Monk; four siblings, Wilma Powell, Willie D. Lewis, Merlene Register, and Glenda McDaniel.


She is survived by her two daughters, Gail Monk (Jeff) of Cottonwood, and Sandy Blunt-Roney (James) of Dothan; three grandchildren, Joseph Berry, Jessica Whitehead (Chris Carroll), and Jared Monk; one great-grandchild, Bryson Johnson; several nieces and nephews and her fur baby, Lisa.


Serving as active pallbearers will be, James Roney, Jeff Monk, Jared Monk, Sydney Monk, and Timmy Blessman.


The family would like to thank the staff of Southern Care Hospice for the compassionate care given to their loved one, especially, Tjuana “Sister Sue”, Donna Mitchell and Chaplain Ernie Gray.
