Jimmie D. Mays of Westville, FL passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Wiregrass Medical Center. He was 78 years old.


Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 15, 2022 at West Pittman Baptist Church with Pastor Daniel Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday beginning at 9:00 a.m.


Jimmie was born in West Virginia on May 22, 1943 to the late David and Zinnie Carter Mays. Jimmie worked and retired after 35 years of dedicated service in law enforcement. At the time of his retirement, he was serving as a sergeant with the Orange County, Florida Sheriff’s Office. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Jimmie enjoyed “joking and kidding” around with family and friends.  


He is preceded in death by his parents, and a number of brothers and sisters.


Jimmie is survived by his wife Carmen Mays of Westville, FL; four children, Brian Mays (Joellen) of Indiana, Kevin Mays (Dea) of North Carolina, Lori Mercurio (Anthony) of Florida, and James Kuhner of Florida; three grandchildren, Janae Mays, Kamie Mays, and Brian Mays, II; one brother, Curtis Mays of North Carolina, and one sister, Phyllis Zahn of Ohio.
