A celebration of Jimmy's life will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. He will be laid to rest with full military honors in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10-11 am.








Jimmy Carlos Collins, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully in Dothan, Alabama, on April 7, 2023, at the age of 74. Born on April 23, 1948, in Dale County, Alabama, Jimmy was known for his courage, patriotism, and unwavering dedication to his family and country.


Jimmy is survived by his devoted wife, Cathy Collins; his son, Pat Parrish; his daughters, Toshia Collins, Tina Price, Tanja Reynolds, and April Watson; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his brother, Derrill Speller; a special brother, Danny Dean; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathryn Speller; his brothers, Steve Collins and Jerry Speller, and by his stepfather, Roy Speller.


Jimmy attended Dale County High School, and then enlisted in the US Army shortly after completing his education. Over the course of his 22-year military career, he served his country with distinction as a Vietnam Veteran. His patriotism and bravery were unwavering, and he was known for his ability to face challenges head-on.


Following his retirement from the Army, Jimmy's innate talent for fixing things led him to a successful career as a mechanic. His skills were not limited to automobiles, as he also remodeled homes for James Grant Realty. Jimmy's handiwork could be seen throughout the community, and he was always willing to lend a hand to those in need.


A resident of Lake Eufaula in Eufaula, Alabama, Jimmy was an avid fisherman who cherished the tranquility and natural beauty of the lake. He found solace in the peaceful moments spent on the water, and his love for the outdoors was evident to all who knew him.


Jimmy's passion for country music was another defining aspect of his life. He played the guitar at his local church, sharing his love for music with his community and inspiring others with his talent. His performances were a testament to his dedication to his faith and his belief in the power of music to bring people together.


Throughout his life, Jimmy was known for his courage, his unwavering love for his family, and his dedication to his country. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
