ASHFORD. . .Jimmy Ray Barefield, a resident of Ashford, died Wednesday morning, November 22, 2023. He was 67.

            There are no funeral or memorial services planned at this time. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.

            Jimmy Barefield was born and reared in Headland, son of the late Jesse James Barefield and Mae McKee Barefield. He formerly lived in Headland and Abbeville before moving to the Ashford area in 2009. Jimmy was of the Pentecostal faith. He was engaged in farming most of his lifetime and was formerly employed by Clint Carter Farms in Abbeville. Jimmy was preceded in death by three sisters, Sarah Helen Branon, Mable Hutto and Beulah Mae Davis, two brothers, Willie James Barefield and Billy Joe Barefield and a step-son, Samuel Leon Shell.

            Surviving relatives include his wife, Nancy Wooten Barefield, two sons, Jamey Barefield (Deanna), Webb, AL; and Jimmy Shell of Georgia; a brother, Hilton Barefield, Midland City; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.
