Joan Griffin Lamb of Dothan passed away Sunday, December 23, 2018. She was 66.

She was born August 3, 1952 to Louise Adams Griffin and Gillis Cyron Griffin. Joan was a 1970 graduate of Dothan High School and graduated from Troy State University in 1975. She taught art in Dothan School Systems until her retirement.

Joan was an accomplished artist who chose to share her gift through education. Countless lives were touched by the lessons she taught both in art and living. She was a kind and caring teacher who was loved by hundreds of students. She was known to many in the halls of Dothan High School as the “cool teacher”. Co-workers would describe her as fun, caring, energetic and extremely talented. Her artistic abilities extended not just to her magnificent paintings, but also to designing sets for the theatre department and decorating for a multitude of school functions. Her talents for making the ordinary beautiful was known throughout the area and whenever she was called upon for help, she did everything she could to meet the need. She and her students were available for projects throughout the community and many elementary students received their start in art education through volunteer work that she and her students performed. She also loved sharing her love for traveling with her students as she organized and chaperoned students to Europe, Costa Rica, and many stateside locations.  After retiring from teaching, she continued her art work as well as her spirit of volunteering and giving to the community through the art museum in Ozark, AL where she displayed her work, helped with art lessons and served on the board.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 to 12:30, Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Graveside services following.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents.
