Joe C. Cassady, Sr., passed away Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Enterprise Health and Rehab.  He was 91 years old.  He was born November 29, 1926 in Gleenwood, AL.


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday,, October 8, 2018 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Ben Bowden officiating.  Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing.  The family will receive friends from 9 until funeral time at First Baptist on Monday, October 8, 2015.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Enterprise, 302 N. Main St., Enterprise, AL 36330, Enterprise YMCA, 904 AL 27, Enterprise, AL 36330 or to Children’s of Alabama, 1600 7th Avenue S., Birmingham, AL 35233.


Mr. Cassady practiced law for 68 years in Coffee County and was a member of the Coffee County, Alabama, and American Bar Association.  He graduated from the University of Alabama and University of Alabama School of Law.  He was a member of Pia Kappa Phi.  Joe was an avid golfer, longtime member of First Baptist Church and served as a deacon numerous times.


Mr. Cassady was a veteran of World War II and retired from the Army National Guard as a Lt. Colonel.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Albert and Josia Starling Cassady, his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Speed Cassady, and his son, Joe C. Cassady, Jr.


Survivors include his daughter, Ann Carmichael; grandchildren, Dr. Joseph Carmichael (Betsy) Montgomery, AL; Lee Carmichael Finison (Bryan) Tuscaloosa, AL; Joe Calvin Cassady, III, Knoxville, TN; Georgia Leigh Cassady, Ann Arbor, MI; Nicholas Edward Cassady, Enterprise, AL; step-grandson, John Clayton Woodham, Enterprise,  AL; 9 great-grandsons; 1 great-granddaughter.


The family would like to thank DaySpring Hospice, especially Cynthia Currington and all the nurses and staff on Hall 5 at Enterprise Health & Rehab.
