John Anthony Pferrman, Sr.
John Anthony Pferrman, Sr., a resident of Dothan, died Sunday, February 26, 2012, at Southeast, Alabama Medical Center. He was 71.
Memorial services with military honors will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 2, 2012, at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Dobbs officiating and Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. Friday.
Mr. Pferrman was born July 12, 1940, in Bellview, KY, and lived his early life there. He enlisted in the U. S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War and also served a tour of duty in Korea, retiring after 21 years of service. Following his military discharge, he was employed with Swedish Match in Dothan for 15 years until his retirement.
He was a member of the Dothan Elks Lodge and was an avid bowler. He enjoyed working in his yard as well as cruising, traveling and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Mr. Pferrman attended Liberty Baptist Church in Pansey.
Mr. Pferrman was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, J. J. Pferrman, a great grandson, and a half brother, Robert Adams.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Pferrman, Dothan; a daughter, Kim Koteras, Dothan; two sons, John Anthony Pferrman II, (Jackie), Valley, AL, and Charles William Pferrman, (Iris), Headland; nine grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; his step-mother, Betty Pferrman, Bellview, KY; four brothers; three sisters; several nieces, nephews and other extended family.
