John Beauchamp

A celebration of life will be held at 3pm on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Memory Hill Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends after the service.

John Beauchamp, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on February 1, 2024, in Dothan, Alabama, at the age of 95. Born on March 3, 1928, in Birmingham, Alabama, John was a man whose life was marked by deep love, unwavering kindness, and a selfless dedication to his family and community.

John was a proud graduate of Ensley High School, after which he furthered his education at Auburn University. There, he earned a degree in Building Science, was an active member of the university's ROTC program, and forged lifelong friendships in the SPE Fraternity. His time at Auburn left an indelible mark on his life, and he remained a devoted fan of Auburn football throughout his years.

Following his graduation, John honorably served in the Army for two years where he served as a Lieutenant in Korea, where he displayed the same commitment and integrity that would characterize his civilian life. After his service, John returned to his beloved Alabama and embarked on a successful career by joining the family business, Beauchamp Paint and Glass, a business he owned and operated for 45 years. His entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to his craft earned him the respect and admiration of those within and beyond his industry.

John's commitment to service extended well into his personal life. He was an active member of several organizations, including the Kiwanis Club, Homebuilder’s Association, Elks Club, and the Country Club, where he formed many lasting friendships and contributed to numerous community projects. His involvement with Lafayette Methodist Church was a testament to his faith and his desire to serve others, a trait that was further exemplified by his volunteer work with Meals on Wheels, where he delighted in helping those in need.

An outdoorsman at heart, John found great joy in fishing and hunting, hobbies that provided him with both relaxation and a sense of connection to the natural world. Yet, it was his role as a family man that truly defined him. John was a loving husband to his wife, Carolyn Beauchamp, a devoted father to his children, Corinne Coletta (Paul) and Bill Beauchamp, and a doting grandfather and great-grandfather. He found his greatest happiness in the company of his grandchildren, Kristin Deveau (Jonathan), Christopher Coletta (Kathryn), and great-grandchildren, Lily Corinne and Emmy Kay Deveau, Eliza Coletta.

John's final years were made comfortable by his great, loving caregivers, Tammie Brown, Mary Gordon, Brianna Davis, and Michelle Neal, who became an extended part of his family. Their dedication and compassion over the past 6 years were a source of great comfort to him and his loved ones.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness, as evidenced by the host of nieces and nephews who will miss his gentle presence. John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Beauchamp, his son, John William Beauchamp, Jr., and his brother, Richard Bruce Beauchamp.

John's life was one of purpose and joy. His impact on the lives he touched was immeasurable, and his memory will be treasured by all who knew him. He will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but for the warmth and generosity he extended to everyone around him.
