John Douglas Jenkins, 79, of Dale City, Virginia passed away on February 6, 2019 after a long illness.  He was born on July 21, 1939 to the late Ruben Frank and Frankie Louise Jenkins, both of Geneva, AL. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Lindon and Charles Jenkins, and his sister Virginia Jenkins. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Ernestine Stewart Jenkins. He is also survived by his three sons; Warren Jenkins (Brenda) of Catlett, VA; Mark Jenkins (Janet) of Bealeton, VA; and Gordon Jenkins (Heidi) of Catlett, VA; his fourteen grandchildren; Ashley Friedman (Robert) of Pensacola, FL; Allison Laake (Alex) of Stafford, VA; Anne Marie Friedman (Casey) of Catlett, VA; Sarah and Jonathan Jenkins of Catlett, VA; Jeremy Jenkins (Rebecca) of Nokesville VA; Jacob Jenkins (Kelly) of Clifton, VA; Hannah Oergel (Joseph) of Midland, VA; Joel Jenkins of Bealeton VA; Rebekah Moss (Justin) of Fredericksburg VA; Joshua, Matthew, Holly and Nathanael Jenkins of Catlett, VA;  twelve great-grandchildren; Juliet Friedman of Pensacola, FL; Austin and Curtis Laake of Stafford, VA; Lana Friedman of Catlett, VA; Callie, Caleb, Luke, Nathan and Daisy Jenkins all of Nokesville VA; Norah Jenkins of Clifton, VA; Logan Oergel of Midland, VA; and Ethan Moss of Fredericksburg, VA. He is also survived by his sister Ann Dora Cook of Enterprise, AL and his stepmother Hilda Jenkins of Geneva, AL.


John is a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and holds a Masters Degree in Technology of Management from The American University.  He was a 33rd degree Scottish Rite mason and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Dale City, VA.


John’s life was defined by his service to others. He was a two-tour Vietnam veteran, who earned the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster and retired as a U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel after 24 years of service.  He also served 23 years with Fairfax County Schools. John has been on the Prince William Board of County Supervisors for 36 years, the longest serving Supervisor in the history of Prince William County. John will always be remembered for his dedicated service to the citizens of Prince William County, his faith and most of all his love for his family. 


Virginia Services:  The viewing and visitation will be on Tuesday February 12, 2019 from 10 am to 2 pm and from 4 pm to 8 pm and again on Wednesday February 13, 2019 from 10:30 am – 12:00 noon.  The memorial and funeral service will be on Wednesday February 13, 2019 at 12:30 pm.  All services will be held at Hylton Memorial Chapel in Dale City, VA. 


Alabama Services:  Viewing on Monday, February 18, 2019 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.  Funeral Service on Monday February 18, 2019 at 1:30 pm.  Both services will be held at Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva Alabama.  Immediately following services there will be a graveside service at Providence United Methodist Church, Chancellor, AL.
