John Doyle Woodham, a resident of Dothan, Alabama, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at his home lovingly surrounded by his family. He was 84 years old.


A celebration of John’s life will be held at 11 am on Friday, January 13, 2023 at Bay Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Green and his son, Bert Woodham officiating. John will be laid to rest in Bay Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Sunset Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 5-7 pm. Flowers are being accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Bay Springs Baptist Church, 1721 S. Bay Springs Rd., Dothan, AL 36305 or to Gentiva Hospice, 2431 W. Main St., Suite 1102, Dothan, AL 36301.


John was born on July 1, 1938 to the late Ford and Quillie Woodham in Houston County, Alabama. He was a 1957 graduate of Wicksburg High School. He met and later married the love of his life, Sara Carpenter on May 19, 1962. He began a lifelong career in cabinetry and was the founder of Woodham’s Cabinet Shop, outfitting many homes and businesses in the area with his skill and expertise. John enjoyed the great outdoors and loved to go hunting and fishing any chance he got. He was a faithful follower of Jesus and was a member of Bay Springs Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for 37 years.


Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Sara Woodham; his daughter, Sheila (Jami) Brackin; his sons, Bert (Lisa) Woodham and Chris (Danielle) Woodham; his eight grandchildren, Brandon (Meagan) Dean, Anna (Daniel) Williams, Chase (Sarah) Woodham, Lindsey (Cody) Fountain, Karissa (Adam) Zeh, Kayley Woodham, Kendra (Wesley) Pybus, and Jaden Bence; his great grandchildren, Evie, Isla, Brady, Rhett, Ryker, Gavin, Meaghan, Skylar, and Molly James; and several nieces and nephews.


The family would like to thank these very special caregivers who became part of our family, Kintenia, Kelly, Destinee, Stephanie, Joanna, Shirley and Dee Dee. We would especially like to thank the staff at Gentiva Hospice for the care and support they have shown to our family.
