HEADLAND. . .John Fletcher McLeod, III, a resident of Headland, died Sunday afternoon, January 27, 2019, in a Dothan hospital. He was 83.


            Celebration of  Life services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 30, 2019, in the Headland United Methodist Church Family Life Center with The Reverend Misty Barrett and The Reverend Phil Craddock officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the church. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.


                        Mr. McLeod was born in Brantley, Alabama and was reared in various locations in Alabama, son of The Reverend John Fletcher McLeod, Jr. and Abbie Foster McLeod. He was a 1953 graduate of Clayton High School. At an early age, Mr. McLeod enlisted in the United States Army and served twenty-seven years, serving two tours of duty in the Vietnam War and retiring with the rank of Sergeant First Class.  Mr. McLeod attended Wallace Community College, Dothan, and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech and Theatre from Huntingdon College. He received a Master of Fine Arts from Florida State University with an internship at Oxford University in Oxford, England. While living in Ozark, Mr. McLeod taught Speech & Theatre at Wallace Community College.  He also owned and operated the Opus Nostrum Dinner Theatre in Headland. He moved to Headland in 2007 where he was a member of the Headland Lions Club. Mr. McLeod was an active member of the Headland United Methodist Church where he sang in the church choir. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Abbie Elizabeth McLeod and a brother, William Marvin McLeod.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Laura Green McLeod; a daughter, Karen Leigh Hall (Mark), Braselton, GA; three sons, John Fletcher (Mac) McLeod, IV (Lisa), Opelika, AL, William Wallace McLeod, Opelika, AL,  and Benjamin Curtis McLeod, Newnan, GA; three step-children, Gwin Neal King (Ty Powell), Dothan; Jamie King, Headland; and Alison Dempsey (Brandon), Dothan; two sisters, Joyce Byrd (Don), Dallas, TX; and Martha McLeod, Auburn, AL; a brother, Glenn McLeod, Memphis, TN; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Headland United Methodist Church, 103 West King Street, Headland, AL 36345 or to City of Headland Animal Rescue Mission (C.H.A.R.M.), P.O. Box 216, Headland, AL 36345.
