ABBEVILLE. . .John Franklin Palmer, a resident of Abbeville, died Friday afternoon, March 4, 2022, in a Dothan hospital. He was 81.


There are no funeral or memorial services planned at this time. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.


Mr. Palmer was born and reared in the Mt. Zion community of northern Henry County, son of the late John F. Palmer and Mary Alice Adams Palmer. He lived in Abbeville all his adult lifetime. Mr. Palmer was a member of the Abbeville United Methodist Church. He received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Georgia where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He was retired from Wallace Community College in Dothan as an Auto Body and Fender instructor. Mr. Palmer formerly owned and operated Frank’s Paint and Body Shop. He was preceded in death by five sisters, Ruby Manry, Sarah Alice Stevens, Carolyn Powell, Jessie Mae Feller and Lucille Beaty and a brother, James “Buddy” Palmer. Mr. Palmer devoted his entire life helping others and caring for his family and loved ones.


Surviving relatives include his wife of sixty-years, Mary Evelyn Grubbs Palmer, two daughters, Valerie Palmer Britt (Jim), Eufaula; and Felicia Palmer Byrd (Mike), Abbeville; a son, Ladell Palmer, Abbeville; five grandchildren, Tommy Wojtala (Tausha), Brandon Wojtala, Richard Wojtala, Raylin Wojtala, and Dalton Cummings, four great-grandchilden, numerous nieces and nephews.
