John "Bob" Hall Jr.

A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024 at 11:00am in the Sunset Memorial Park Chapel. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.

John "Bob" Hall Jr., a cherished educator, loving family man, and beacon of resilience, passed away on March 12, 2024, in his hometown of Dothan, Alabama, after a valiant 22-year battle with cancer. Born on November 19, 1939, to John Robert Hall Sr. and Emily Lorene Hall, Bob's life was characterized by his gentle nature, loving heart, and unwavering faith.

Bob attended Dothan High School before furthering his education at Auburn University and Troy State University, where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees. His passion for history and education led him to a fulfilling career as a history teacher, shaping young minds at Girard School in Dothan and Northview High School until his retirement in 2002. His dedication to education extended beyond the classroom as he was in the Government Club at Northview and taught adult readers, leaving a lasting impact on the community.

A man of deep faith, Bob was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and was a member of Harvest Church for many years. His commitment to service was evident through his volunteer work with hospice and the FUMC Respite Care program. Bob's gentle spirit and patience, often likened to that of Job, made him a beloved figure within his church and among those he served.

Bob's roots as the son of a dairy farmer instilled in him a love for family and tradition. He was a father figure not only to his own daughter but also to his granddaughter, whom he adored. His interest in world religions and being actively involved with his family reflected his open-mindedness and nurturing personality. Bob's home was a place of love and learning, where discussions on faith and history blended with the laughter of children and the warmth of a close-knit family.

An avid traveler, Bob enjoyed exploring new places, often accompanied by his family, creating memories that would last a lifetime. His artistic side found expression in painting, a hobby that brought him peace and joy. Even in his grumpiest moments, Bob's loving nature shone through, endearing him to all who knew him.

Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 28 years, Sue Hall; his stepdaughter, Susannah McCord (Adam); grandchildren, Jessica Plummer and Sydney Childress; step-grandchildren, Anderson McCord and John Robert McCord; his brother, Ken Hall (Sarah); his niece, Meghan Fletcher (Dr. Matt Fletcher); his nephew, Kenny Hall (Sarah); and a host of great nieces and nephews. His legacy of kindness and faith lives on through the generations of his family.

He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Kecia Hall, and by his parents, John Robert Hall Sr. and Emily Hall.

Bob will be remembered as a gentle, loving, and faith-filled soul who faced life's challenges with grace, patience, and frugality. His legacy as an educator and family man will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. As Bob's journey on earth concludes, those who loved him take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, free from pain, and that his spirit will forever be a guiding light in their lives. His story is not one of sorrow but of a life well-lived, filled with love, learning, and the quiet strength of a man who faced each day with courage and hope.
