John Lewis Peacock, a lifelong resident of Dothan, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 28, 2018 with his daughters by his side following a brief illness. He was 77 years old. 


Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 1,  at 10:30 at Glover Funeral Home with services to follow at 11:30. Burial will follow at Dothan City Cemetery.Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Wesley Place on Honeysuckle, 718 Honeysuckle Rd., Dothan, AL, 36305.


John Lewis was preceded in death by his parents Mary Lou Smith Peacock (Lulu) and Jack Dempsey Peacock.  He leaves behind his beloved daughters Lynn Elmore (Bob) of Gulf Breeze, FL and Kelley Sumrall (John) of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; five grandsons, Mason Cook (Kensie) of Molino, FL, Chapman Cook of Tampa, FL, Banks Sumrall, Coleman Sumrall and McDaniel Sumrall, all of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; and one great granddaughter, Hadley Cook of Molino, FL. He also leaves his devoted brother, Tommy Peacock (Kathy) of Dothan; a niece, Holley McWilliams (Jeremiah) of Hoover, AL and a nephew, John Hudson Peacock (Erica) of Dothan.  He loved his great nieces and nephews and all of his wonderful friends and neighbors. He held a very special place in his heart for his loving caregiver, Susie Pew. 


He was born in Dothan December 27, 1940 and was a graduate of Dothan High School. John Lewis attended the University of Alabama and was a member of ATO fraternity. Alabama football was such a huge part of his life.  He never missed a kickoff for the Crimson Tide and was a member of the Alabama Alumni Association. 


John Lewis owned and operated Dothan Contractors Supply for many years prior to his retirement. He was a member of First United Methodist Church for over 50 years and a former member of the Dothan Rotary Club.


The family would like to extend a special “thank you” to the wonderful staff of Wesley Place for their loving care during his brief stay.
