            Johnnie Phate Grimes of Enterprise went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at Medical Center Enterprise. He was 85.

             Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday March 21, 2012 at the Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel in Enterprise with Rev. Donald Lolley officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Meadowlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 until 8pm.

             Mr. Grimes was born September 6, 1926 in Enterprise to the late John and Annie Lou Holt Grimes. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Calvary having served in the Pacific Theatre during WW II. After returning home he worked at Fort Rucker until opening Grimes Grocery of which he retired in 1990. He loved watching drag racing, NASCAR, old westerns and playing card games.

              His wife Clydie Allen Grimes, two sons, Jerry and Jimmy Lee Grimes, a sister, Maudie Grimes and a brother Ray Grimes all preceded him in death.

             Survivors include two sons: Tom Grimes, Crestview, FL, Jackie Turner (Sue), Newton, AL; seven grandchildren: Ricky Gaines, McDonough, GA, Vicki Miller (Lonnie), Samson, AL, John Nicholas Grimes, Washington, DC, Tony Turner (Tomoko), Dothan, AL, Ronnie Turner (Beth), Wicksburg, AL, Mickey and Larry Helms, Wicksburg, AL, Paige Turner, Newton, AL: one sister, Pearl Alberson, Enterprise, AL; 9 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren.
