Jose “Joe” Angel Puentes, 81, died on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at his loving home. Per his request, his body was donated to The University of Birmingham’s anatomical program. His remains will be interred in a private ceremony by his family.


 


Joe was born in Carrizo Springs, TX on May 6, 1941 to the late Lorenzo and Aurora Puente. He was in the U.S. Air Force and attended Arizona State University. He then he worked as a computer engineer in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and France. He and his family moved up and down the east coast for military defense projects such as fingerprint scanning. He also worked on the first grocery store scanners, and so many other projects.


 


Throughout his life, Joe played tennis all the way to the end. His tennis friends brought him joy and love during his time in Alabama, especially his dear and faithful friend, Dr. Charles Conner, who lifted his spirits with his


 


Joe is survived by his loving life partner, Judy Wilkes, her sister, Susan Patterson, his three children and two son-in-laws, Deborah and Terrance Kessler, Carrie and Carl Bornmann III, and Robert Puentes and Melissa Dunn, and his partner’s children, Kristen Glass and Melissa Hix. Joe had four grandchildren: Greta Bornmann, Hayden Puentes, and Natalia Dunn. Joe was preceded in death by his oldest granddaughter, Araella Bornmann.


 


Joe’s family is grateful for their time with Joe who took good care of them all and is now in the care of his Lord Jesus.
