Mr. Joseph Edward “Ed’ Barton of Geneva, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at his home. He was 87 years old.


 Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2023 in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Red Coleman and Rev. Ricky Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Midway Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m.


 Ed was born on April 21,1935 in Holmes County Florida to the late Ezra Lee and Lois Jeanette Stripling Barton.  Mr. Barton retired from Ft. Rucker where he worked as an aircraft mechanic.  Mr. Ed enjoyed fishing, dancing, watching the New York Yankees play baseball and the Florida Gators play football. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Dewey Barton, Lee Barton, and Cecil H. Barton.


 He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Barton of Geneva, AL; one daughter, Sandra Barton of Geneva, AL; two sons, Joe Barton (Jennifer) of Panama City, FL, and Jeff Barton of Geneva, AL; grandchildren, Nathaniel Barton, Joanna Barton, Breanna McDuffie, Justin Bacon, and Bryson Barton; great grandchildren, Case Barton, Cain Barton and Gracie Baker; one sister; Ruth Mathews of Westville, FL; and a sister-in-law, Gail Johnson Barton of Samson, AL.


 Serving as pallbearers will be Ricky H. Barton, Dickey H. Barton, Kenneth L. Barton, Mike Mathews, Stan Mathews, and Dennis Huggins.


 Kenny Royals will serve as an honorary pallbearer.


 The family would like to extend a very special thank you to SouthernCare Hospice, RN Janary and CNA Vee, for the special care that they provided.
