DOTHAN…Joyce Evelyn Lingo, a resident of Dothan, Alabama, passed away Saturday morning, December 11, 2021, at Wesley Place on Honeysuckle. She was 82.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at Wright Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel with Reverend Murray Kelley officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Headland, Alabama. The family will receive friends Monday, December 13, 2021 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Wright Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel.
Flowers will be accepted at Wright Funeral Home, or the family requests the contributions be made in her name to the Wesley Place on Honeysuckle Employee Christmas Fund or Kindred Hospice.
Ms. Joyce Lingo was born on March 13, 1939 in the Holley Store Community in Coffee County to the late Reverend Elbert Jackson and Thelma Anderson Jackson. She met her husband Billy, and they shared one son, Michael. Joyce lived her life to the fullest and enjoyed all that it had to offer her. She traveled the world while still having time to cook up the best food you could eat. She was one of the two first female switchman for GTE in Alabama. She visited numerous countries and even had an international driver’s license as well as held a CDL license with bus privilege in order to bring those without transportation to church. She prepared the best food for anyone who asked including all of Dothan for Dothan First Assembly’s Annual Feed Dothan and an entire summer camp in the Bahamas. She served with the American Red Cross supporting those working at Ground Zero in the days following September 11, 2001. She volunteered her time to help build churches all across the U.S. with RVMaps. She served on mission trips all over of the world. She even beat breast cancer. She truly did it all. But more importantly than all the fun, Joyce loved her Jesus and shared His love at any opportunity. She truly was the epitome of a faithful servant who fought the good fight even to the last breath of her 82 years of life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Billy Fred Lingo, a brother Bobby Jackson, a sister Mary Ruth Schuh and a brother-in-law Allen Williams.
Left to cherish her memories are her son Michael Lingo (Renee’) of Cottonwood, AL; sister Faye Williams of Mobile, AL; brother Gerald Jackson (Gerri) of Springfield, MO; brother-in-law August Schuh of Abbeville, AL; sister-in-law Gloria Jackson of Lakeland, FL; granddaughter Ashton Mayo (Harris) of Headland, AL; and numerous more relatives and friends.
The family would like to extend their greatest appreciation to the many special staff members of Wesley Place on Honeysuckle who cared for and loved Joyce in her final year as well as Kindred Hospice who assisted the family in her final month.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Cody Lingo, Jimmy Lingo, Johnny Lingo, Harris Mayo, Joel Raley, and Mark Raley.
