Mrs. Julia Mae (Whittaker) Mathis, age 98, a resident of Ozark, passed away at Dale Medical Center following a brief illness.

Julia was born November 21, 1924, in Ashford to the late Fletcher & Netti Elizabeth McCall Whittaker. She spent the early years of her life in Ashford. Julia worked as a salesperson at Van Ritch Store in Dothan for 25 years and for 3 years at Blumberg’s. She loved clothes, enjoyed shopping, and was of Baptist faith.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Ruell Mathis; granddaughter, Elisa Paramore; brother, Willie Frank Whittaker; and sister, Anne W. Kelly.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Paramore (Tom) of Dothan; grandson, Thomas Gerald Paramore, Jr (Erika) of Louisville, KY; two great-grandchildren, Thomas Gerald Paramore III, and Beatrix Elizabeth Paramore both of Louisville, KY.

Per her wishes, no services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to, Selma Baptist Church, 3255 S. Park Ave, Dothan, AL 36301.
