Julianne M. Stern, 50, of Dothan, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at a local hospital.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Ede Plovanich officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m.

Mrs. Stern was born on December 20, 1961, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and lived the earlier part of her life in Dothan. She was a graduate of Northview High School (1979) and of Samford University. She taught and attended class at UAB for her Masters. She also worked on her doctorate at Auburn while teaching at Wallace. Julianne has been a math instructor there for the past 24 years. She sought to improve the lives of her students through education, and they returned the love she had for them tenfold.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Stern, Dothan; her daughter, Callie Stern; her son, Richard Edward Stern, II; her mother, Sarah Judith Mitchell, Dothan; her brother, James A. Mitchell, Slocomb; and her nephew, Anthony Mitchell, Birmingham.
