Kathryn M. Culp

Kathryn M. Culp, affectionately known as Kathy to her friends and family, left this world on January 23, 2024, at the age of 71. Born on November 27, 1952, in New Jersey, Kathy's journey through life was one marked by love, adventure, and a spirited zest for the simple joys. Her final days were spent in Ozark, Alabama, where she had been a cherished member of the community since 1981.

Kathy's story began in the East, but her heart led her to traverse the country alongside her soulmate, Michael D. Culp, Sr. The young couple set out from New Jersey when Kathy was just sixteen, their shared dreams guiding them through Michigan and Tennessee before finally planting roots in Alabama's Wiregrass area. It was here that Kathy dedicated her life to creating a warm and loving home, a testament to her enduring kindness and generosity.

Those who knew Kathy will remember her as a loving and spirited individual, whose presence could light up a room. Her passion for life was evident in the way she embraced her role as a homemaker, always ensuring that her family felt the full measure of her love. Kathy's laughter was a frequent and joyful sound during her favorite pastime, playing Bingo, and she found pleasure and contentment in the simple act of engaging with her tablet, connecting with friends, and exploring the digital world.

Kathy's legacy is carried on through her adoring family. She is survived by her three children, Michael D. Culp Jr., Karen L. Sanderson, and Laura Hill, who will forever cherish the lessons of compassion and resilience she instilled in them. Her seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren will continue to grow under the canopy of her love, which remains as a guiding light in their lives. Kathy is also lovingly remembered by her siblings, Charles Wetzel, William (Virginia) Wetzel, Benjamin Wetzel, and Christine Wetzel; her sister-in-law, Robin Wetzel; and a host of nieces and nephews, each of whom felt the warmth of her kind-hearted spirit.

Preceding Kathy in death were her beloved husband, Michael D. Culp, Sr., who was her partner in life's grand adventure; her parents, William Benjamin Wetzel and Catherine Donnelly; her grandson, Beaux Sanderson; her brother, John Wetzel; and her sister-in-law, Jackie Wetzel. They have now been reunited in eternal peace, a thought that offers comfort to those she has left behind.

Throughout her life, Kathy was an active and engaged member of her community. Her work history and association involvement were integral to her identity, reflecting her commitment to the place she called home for over four decades. Kathy's journey, which began on the East Coast and found its heart in the South, was a beautiful tapestry woven with the threads of her experiences, relationships, and unwavering love.

As we bid farewell to Kathy, we celebrate a life lived with an abundance of kindness and a heart that knew no bounds. Her spirit, characterized by a loving and kind nature, will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her. Kathy's story may have reached its conclusion, but her memory will resonate for generations to come, a lasting tribute to a life so beautifully lived.

In honor of Kathy's life and legacy, her family will gather in a private ceremony to share memories and to honor the incredible woman she was. Kathy's life was a journey of love, laughter, and the joy of being together with those she cherished most. Her departure leaves a void that can never be filled, but her spirit will forever remain a beacon of love and kindness for her family and all who knew her.
