Kenneth Wayne Shirah passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at his residence. He was 77 years old.


Wayne was born on August 9, 1943 to the late Kenneth "Doc" and Claudie Broxson Shirah. He graduated from Coffee Springs High School in 1961 and joined the United States Army, where he served in Vietnam. While serving his country, he received several medals for his service, including a Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He later worked at Ft. Rucker for 37 years.


In 1988, Wayne, Anthony, and Jamie began Shirah Farms where they farmed, raised cattle and one time ran 3 Broiler farms. Wayne continued working on the farm, helping when and where it was needed and was even known to tear up a thing or three. Wayne loved to fish and spent his time on the river and under the barn cooking fish and telling tales.


Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Doc and Claudie Shirah; one brother, James "Shorty" Shirah; and brother-in-law, Billy Moring.


Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2020 in the Eden Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Ronnie Baine officiating and under the direction of Jimmy Bottoms of Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Geneva.


Wayne is survived by his wife, Stephanie Shirah; his two sons, and daughters-in-law, Anthony and Kerri Shirah and Jamie and Penny Shirah; one sister and brother-in-law, Genola and Tom McLeod; mother-in-law, Barbara Harrell; and sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and James Watson. Nephews, Stevie Shirah and Caiden Watson; two granddaughters, Makenzie (Jeremy) Shirah and Ashley Gainey and one grandson Joshua (Victoria) Pitts and 6 great grandchildren (McKinley, Destiny, Emery, Lane, Joseph and Jackson), his dog Cooper and his adopted son  and fishing partner, Micky Smith.
