OBITUARY

HOLMAN ABBEVILLE MORTUARY

ABBEVILLE, ALABAMA [334]585-5261 {FAX-[334]585-6369}

KEVIN  O’NEAL  APLIN

1979-2012

EUFAULA. . . . Kevin Aplin, age 32, of Eufaula, Alabama, left this earth and went back home on May 20, 2012 to join God, his angels and his grandparents, Jack and Ewellyne Hardwick of Abbeville, Alabama and Sam and Rebecca Aplin of Eufaula, Alabama.

            Kevin developed juvenile diabetes when he was thirteen and in the subsequent years developed many complications from this disease.  He graduated from Choctawhatchee High School in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida in 1996.  While there he enjoyed playing percussion all four years with the Choctawhatchee Style Marchers.  Music was always a part of his life and he enjoyed playing timpani with the Emerald Coast Community Band under the direction of family friend, Nancy Thiele.  He also enjoyed composing techno music and loved sharing CDs with all his friends.  Kevin had a huge heart, a sweet spirit and was one of the most non-judgmental people you would ever meet.  He never met a stranger and would go above and beyond the call of duty for anyone who needed his help.  Kevin enjoyed fishing, playing disc golf, racing RC cars, romping in the woods and riding his 4-wheeler at the farm in Alabama, as well as spending quality time with his friends, his family and with his bed bud, Buster, his Boston Terrier.

            Kevin taught all those around him that each day was “a present” and we should not take it for granted. He squeezed more life out of the times he felt good, than anyone you could meet.  Kevin learned, and tried to teach us how to make “your Mess, your Message!”  Using his incredible zest for life, he lived every day as if it were his last.  He had an amazingly positive attitude and a deep spirituality.  Through all the pain and suffering that he endured during his short time here, he truly learned “how to dance in the rain”.

            Life without him will never be the same. We will miss his silly jokes, good hugs, soft kisses, sweet spirit and his long, although interesting, “Kevin stories.”  What was truly amazing about Kevin was his immense inner strength and endurance, and calm acceptance of his challenges.  We are comforted by the fact that he left all these challenges here at the end of his journey, and that he is flying free and happy with the angels.  Kevin told us all that he was not afraid to die because he definitely knew where he was going and who would be there welcoming him home.  He is finally at peace.

            He left behind his parents, his mother, Joy Hardwick Aplin, Ft. Walton Beach, Florida; his father, Charles O. (Fuzzy) Aplin and wife, Julie, Eufaula; his sister, Michelle Aplin Faith, Ft. Walton Beach, Florida; his aunt Merry Hardwick, Ocoee, Florida; and Buster, who will always be at the front door waiting for his return.

            The family would like to thank all of you, from the bottom of our hearts, for all your prayers, cards, hugs and amazing support through this incredible journey.

            Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 24, 2012, in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, near Eufaula, with Reverend Terry Birdsong officiating. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.  The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11:00 A.M. Thursday in the church sanctuary.

            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation, S.E. Alabama Chapter, P.O. Box 5994, Dothan, AL  36302 or American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA  22312.
