NEWTON…. LaShawn Young Dewberry, a resident of Newton, died early Tuesday afternoon, February 25, 2020 in the emergency room of Dale Medical Center. She was 49.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 7, 2020 in the Union Grove Baptist Church, 5333 County Road 708, Enterprise, AL 36330, with Reverend Bobby Bennett and Reverend Charlie Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.


            LaShawn was a native of Avon Park, Florida having moved to the Newton area as a child. She was a 1989 graduate of Dale County High School and also graduated from Wallace Community College. LaShawn was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church, a Sunday school teacher, and the Ladies Aide Missionary Society #80. She was preceded in death by her father, John Frank Young.


            Surviving relatives include her loving husband, Levi Dewberry; daughter, Laiya Dewberry; son, LJ. Dewberry, all of Newton; her mother, Mary Paul Young, Newton; sister, Tracy Young, Sebring, FL; brother, John Young (Stephanie), Clarkesville, TN;  grandson, Isaac Moore; mother-in-law, Linda Rice, Sebring, FL; two sisters-in-law, Toshia Diabate, Daleville; Shonda Pringle (Samuel), Naples, FL; brothers-in-law, James Ludden, Craig Dewberry, Kevin Dewberry, all of Sebring, FL; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins including a special niece, Kelsey Lewis.


            Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Dale County High School Class of 1989 and the 2019-2020 Dale County High School Varsity Cheerleaders.
