Laura Kristen Grimes passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024 at Hospice Family Care in Huntsville, AL due to ovarian cancer. She was 43. 
She was known as Kristi to her friends and family, Ms. Grimes to her students, and Kiki to her niece and nephews. Kristi grew up in Anniston, AL and is a graduate of The Donoho School. She attended Auburn University, earning a degree in Public Relations. Kristi graduated from Jacksonville State University with a degree in Early Education and from UAB with a master’s in special education. She taught at Chalkville Elementary and at Bryant Park in Birmingham. She also taught at Farley Elementary and at Blossomwood Elementary in Huntsville. She enjoyed riding horses, traveling, the beach, and good coffee. She also enjoyed trips to Disney World, especially with friends she had made while teaching. Kristi is remembered as a loving daughter and sister, devoted friend, and valued teacher. 

Funeral services will be held at Hayes Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, February 4, 2024 beginning at 2:00 PM. The family will be receiving friends at Hayes Funeral Home on Sunday, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at the Lindsey family cemetery at Danley’s Cross Roads following the service, under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.

Survivors include her parents, Judy and Robert Grimes, Huntsville, AL, along with two sisters, Melanie (Craig) Smith, of Huntsville, AL, and Suzie (John) Kelley of Anniston, Alabama, along with niece Rose Smith, and nephews Clayton Smith and Ben Kelley.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Haywood and Laura Grimes, as well as her paternal grandparents, Marvin and Melba Till Allen.

Hayes Funeral Home of Elba, Alabama is serving the Grimes family.
