Lealon Herbert Childs, age 91, passed away August 11, 2020.  Herb was born January 27, 1929 in Samson, AL to Monroe and Addie Childs.  He was a Geneva High School alumni, class of 1947.  Herb was an Army veteran and served during the Korean War. 

Most of his life was spent in Wauchula, FL with his wife of 33 years, Audrey who preceded him in death in 2013.  For many years, he was manager of Donald Duck orange juice factory in south Florida, then worked for the road and bridge department in Hardee County Florida from which he retired. When Herb came back to Geneva in 2014, he attended Maple Avenue Baptist Church where he made many friends. His residence the last few years was Signature Healthcare in Graceville, FL where he received excellent care. 

Some of Herb’s favorite things were watching football, making preserves and riding around the county.  He also loved a good pound cake. 

Besides his parents and wife, Herb was preceded in death by his siblings Dottie Smith, Levy Childs, Lawrence Childs, Lennon Childs, Emma McDuffie and Hubert Childs.  He is survived by his grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family who loved him very much.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 7, 2020 at Liberty Chapel Baptist Church with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home directing.  All family and friends are invited to attend.
