Lelia Carmen Collins Best, age 102, a resident of Dothan, Alabama, died March 18, 2012.


 


Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at the Berean Baptist Church with Reverends Raymond Holt and Coley Myer Holloway officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery, Garden of Gethemene, Dothan, with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.


 


Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 P.M. Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at the Berean Baptist Church, one hour prior to the service.


 


Carmen was the daughter of Jesse Madison and Ida Lee Stevenson Collins. She was born July 21, 1909, at her parent’s home in the Malvern Community of Geneva Countyu, Alabama. She was the granddaughter of Thomas Wallace and Annie English Collins and Bill and Ella Stevenson.


 


She was the oldest of three children, none of whom had children: Lelia Carmen Collins, Woodrow Wilson Collins, and Henry Howard Collins. All of Carmen’s family preceded her in death.


 


Carmen attended school at Malvern and Slocomb High School. In 1944, she married William Clyde Best of Pansey, Alabama. Carmen retired from B.C. Moore’s in Dothan after twenty years; she was a member of the New Horizon Club and the Berean Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for years. She was baptized in the Baptist Church in Malvern.


 


Carmen’s life was based on strong Christian values and principles; and her family was of utmost importance to her. She enjoyed reading and learning all aspects of life.


 


She is survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and many friends. A special thanks to the special Caregivers and Gentiva Hospice.


 


Pallbearers will be: Mickey Smith, Lee Johnson, Rudolph Galloway, Billy Byrd, Don Best, Franklin Strickland, and Joel Watkins.
