Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Doug MacCormack officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday at the funeral home from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm.

Leon Gibson, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at his home. He was 72.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Doug MacCormack officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday at the funeral home from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm.


Leon was born July 2, 1950 in Graceville, Florida to the late Christopher Columbus “C.C.” Gibson and Mollie Bess Richardson Gibson. Leon was a devoted brother and uncle who loved Alabama Football! He was always ready to talk about football and give a big “Roll Tide!”. Leon served in the United States Army and worked for the city of Dothan as an engineer most of his career. He also was employed with Lidden Furniture, Headland Co-op and Helig Meyers. Leon loved the Lord and attended church at Crossroads Baptist Church and Berean Baptist Church. On a normal day you could find Leon spending time with his siblings, or anywhere around Vaughn Towers joking with residents and catching up with friends. He cherished his relationships with family and friends. He was always someone you could depend on. If you needed Leon, he was always there for you, a true friend in every sense of the word.


He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Lugene Parker and Freddy Owen Gibson; beloved dog, Curly Sue; and many other family and friends.


Survivors include his siblings, Herman “Wade” Gibson of Dothan, AL, Joyce Lee of Jack, AL, Gail Welch of Headland, AL, Cathy Williams of Hamilton, GA and Faye Clark of Panama City Beach, FL; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.
