A celebration of Loletha's life will be held at 11 am on Monday, July 3, 2023 at Church of God by Faith Church in Dothan, Alabama with Pastor John Smith officiating. The family will receive friends at Sunset Funeral Home on Sunday evening from 4-6 pm.








Loletha Washington, a beacon of love, generosity, and faith, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2023, after a prolonged illness. Born on March 21, 1955, in Houston County, Alabama, Loletha's life was a testament to the transformative power of kindness and determination. She carried an unwavering faith, a heart full of compassion, and a mind brimming with wisdom, leaving an indelible impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.


Loletha was an extraordinary woman, blessed with an enduring spirit and an insatiable hunger for knowledge. A proud 1973 graduate of Ashford High School, she furthered her education at Auburn University and later graduated at Troy University, earning a degree in accounting. Her academic achievements were not merely a reflection of her intelligence but a testament to her unwavering determination and commitment to personal growth.


In her professional life, Loletha was a force to be reckoned with. She spent 38 fruitful years with GMAC, demonstrating her expertise and dedication in every endeavor. GMAC became Ally Finance, where she continued to excel until her retirement in 2017. Her colleagues remember her as a hardworking individual who had a knack for numbers and a heart for people.


Beyond her professional accomplishments, Loletha was a woman of profound faith. She was a dedicated member of the Church of God by Faith, where she served as the secretary. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and inspiring those around her. Additionally, Loletha was a former member of the 4-H Club during her high school years, where she developed a lifelong love for community service.


Loletha's personal interests were as diverse as they were fulfilling. She loved her family deeply and was a devoted wife to Harold T. Washington, whom she married on February 28, 1976. She was a proud mother to her sons, Demetrius Washington and Thomas Drew Washington, a loving grandmother to Atlas Chiam Washington. She was also a loving sister to Patricia Ann Smith, Trellis Smith, Wade Smith, and Alan Smith, and a beloved daughter to her father, J. C. Smith and to her mother, Ella Mae Smith. Loletha was also an adored aunt to several nieces and nephews. Loletha was preceded in death by her mother, Ella Mae Smith.


Loletha had a knack for sewing and a penchant for reading. She was known for her generosity, often going out of her way to help anyone in need. This generosity was not limited to her family and friends; it was a trait that she extended to all, reflecting her deep-rooted belief in the power of kindness.


In the words of the great Maya Angelou, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." And this quote embodies Loletha's life philosophy. She made everyone feel loved, valued, and important. Her legacy is one of love, generosity, and faith, which will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to know her.


Loletha Washington's life was a celebration of resilience, love, and faith. Her memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who loved her and those whose lives she touched. Her spirit will continue to shine brightly, guiding us towards a path of kindness, compassion, and unwavering faith. Rest in peace, dear Loletha.
